Privacy
Been There uses email-code sign-in to open your personal travel space. Your journal, visited cities, bucket list, trip details, and appearance preferences are stored with your account in Supabase so they can follow you across devices. Private workspace records are restricted to the signed-in account.
Google Places suggestions
When you use Google Places, the local server sends your selected country or state, city name and public coordinates when selected, and suggestion category to Google. When you submit a things-to-do search, the local server also sends your activity search text, including any location you enter, to Google. Typing in the home search bar only checks the local destination directory until you choose the activity search. Opening a place requests its details and an available photo. Google also receives network information needed to respond. Your journal notes, visited-city history, trip names, dates, and Duffel token are not sent to Google Places.
Google photos load from Google’s image servers. Provider website and map links open only when you choose them. Google’s handling of information is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Saved places
Only Google place IDs are stored with your trip. Names, descriptions, ratings, and photos are fetched again when viewed and are not saved in the journal or a local content database. Remove a saved place in Trip Planner to remove its ID. Removing a saved item and allowing the account save to complete removes it from your synced plans. Clearing browser storage does not delete travel data already saved to your account. Unsynced changes may be kept temporarily in an account-specific browser cache; clearing browser storage can remove those pending changes and any older browser-only journal.
Sign-in and account storage
Supabase handles your sign-in email and verification code and stores your private travel workspace. Authentication tokens stay on the server; this browser receives an HttpOnly session cookie. Signing out ends that session. A one-time import is offered for older browser-only travel data, and runs only when you choose to bring that data into the signed-in account. Your original browser records are kept.
Community recommendations and the display name you choose become visible to other travelers when you share them. Your private journal and trip plans are not included in community posts.
Other services
Community guides use locally bundled Wikivoyage content and may query Wikivoyage for a selected city. Flight, hotel, and car searches send the search details you enter to Duffel through the local server. Google Fonts and existing photography are used by the website. API credentials stay in local files outside the public website folder.
